16' MXU 700i EPS loss of power
« on: June 19, 2016, 04:22:39 AM »
About a month ago I purchased a new Kymco MXU 700i. I know little to nothing about these products so any help would be greatly appreciated.

So yesterday I was riding with a few friends all was well until I got halfway up a hill and it basically lost all power. It didn't seem to want to go above 3rpms and was bogging out no tires spinning or anything.

So I had back down the hill, when I got down I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I pulled the airbox lid off to check for water there was nothing. It doesnt feel like anything is slipping it just doesnt have power to make it up. I had it in 4wd it should've climbed right up it without any problems being at a 400 artic cat and a few others made it up with ease.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I plan on taking it back to the dealer but don't really know what to tell them the problem is.

P.S. I do play in quite a bit of mud but the airbox is completely dry, the filter does have a little dust in it but nothing outrageous. I've noticed when in water I seem to lose power too.

Nice looking machine! Being an EPS model is the power steering working as it should. On some EPS models ( not sure on Kymco) if the EPS fails they go into limp mode. Meaning they basically hardly have enough power except to move forward ever so slowly.

Also check your connections to the EPS system. Pull the connectors, clean them and use dielectric grease to waterproof them. Actually all your connectors should have had that treatment if you like to play in water.

I noticed when riding yesterday the light came on while in the mud so I backed out and shut it off and turned it back on the light then went away.

When riding on flat land it has the power to go, it just seems to do it when on water or going up a hill

You may have got water/mud into your CVT housing. May need to pull the cover and give it a good cleaning. If the light came on you need to clean and dielectric grease the connector to make it waterproof.

I ended up taking it back to the dealer being that it is still under warranty. Will keep you all updated as I find out what the problem is. I noticed there was 2 bolts missing in the cvt case so good possibility water got in there.
