Battery size difference 200 vs 125 LIKE

Although my LIKE is not that old the battery died in it yesterday and I ended up getting a replacement but curious as to why the recommended battery according to the specs sheet is a 12V7AH for my 125 LIKE but the 200 comes with a 12V9AH. The recommended 125 battery is only 6AH and the measurements are 150L, 87W, 93H.
Also, there must be a trick to kick starting a 125 LIKE as I have tried many times (yes with the ignition on) but cannot get it to fire up. UPDATE: got it to fire up today 1st kick so I don't know what I did before that was wrong.

If you want to fit a larger battery you need to cut the battery cover. In the inner side theres a plastic that holds the battery... you just chopp it and fit the larger.

Thanks mate. I did read Stig's battery upgrade thread but just curious as to why they went with a smaller capacity battery in the 125 as aren't all the electrics and spark plug the same as the 200?

I think it could be the fact that the Like 200i is fuel injected. The electric pump needs more reserve power especially at start up. On the starting issue have you checked the function of the auto enrichment device?

The 200i needs a battery with charge to start. Needs to get the ecu and the fuel pump on asides the strter. Thats why it doesnt have the kick start of the 125. A 200i without battery need s to be cable jumped or a charged battery.
The 125's kick start is straight forward. Use the center stand. Turn ignition on and give while kicking.

Thanks guys. Just one more question though, does having a bigger battery make it less strain on the alternator when riding with the headlights on at all times. eg, when just idling at a set of traffic lights.

you could check the battery voltage at idle, and rev it up and check again, to see how much your stator puts out, that will let you know what your scooter needs to run ,. the larger battery has more amps to help start , more reserve,.
