Newly Acquired Kymco MXU 250
« on: June 04, 2017, 03:23:40 AM »
Hello All!

I recently acquired an MXU 250.  I was visiting my cousin in AL and saw his neighbor had a four wheeler under the shed that appeared to be sitting for awhile.  I ended up buying it without hearing it run.  Last week I ended up doing some troubleshooting and it appears that the starter is constantly engaged.   As soon as i put the battery cable on, the starter is trying to engage.  In my troubleshooting, I completely removed the starter solenoid and it's STILL trying to engage.

Does that mean I have a bad starter?

Certainly sounds like the attached solenoid is stuck.

I replaced the solenoid with a known good solenoid and it still tries to crank.  I completely removed the solenoid and it still tries to crank.  What else could it be?

Disconnect the wire to the starter and isolate it, reconnect the battery and see if the solenoid clicks on. You may have power staying on from the starter button.

Good idea!   I never thought of that.  Should i hear an audible click from the solenoid if/when the solenoid engages?

Possibly but a simple test light is great to have as well.

You are correct.  The first car I ever bought was a 1963 Dodge Polara....   :)
