Spark, compression & fuel but no start
« on: July 06, 2017, 03:23:42 PM »
Hi
I recently have this problem. On the way home I got about 30ft from the door and the motor quits on my DJ50s 4 stroke. It was like the fuel stopped, I checked for fuel removed line from filter then carb fuel flowed, pulled plug layed it on eng. block got spark, stuck my finger over the spark plug hole had compression. I am stumped

Spark, compression & fuel

Unless the crankshaft-flywheel woodruff key sheared, throwing off timing . . you're missing something!

If the engine fires off on starting fluid . . that would indicate a fuel related issue.  Usual suspects include a missing screw from the carb bowl drain hose end fitting . . and overfilling the gas tank which wets the vent element and restricts outflow.

I once had the carb float valve get stuck open, flooding the engine, killing it. If you have compression, spark and fuel delivery it's either not enough fuel...or too much...or the previous reply: something way more serious but not very probable.

tried the starting fluid it´s a no go. I am stumped it was running fine then 20ft from the house it was like the fuel or spark was not there it just died and coasted in

Verify timing by inserting a probe into sparkplug hole and rotating fan to position piston at TDC . . then observe if flywheel TDC mark is aligned with case indicator, and camshaft sprocket marks are aligned with top of cylinder head casting.

Why would you NOT check . . it's called troubleshooting!
