2013 Super 8 50 2t won't run with air box cover on

Getting the Super 8 back out after sitting for some time.  Replaced battery, cleaned carb and it would run for a while and then bog out.  Pulled carb again, replaced fuel filter, cleaned air filter, drained tank and tried again.  Took off gas cap.  Checked choke and appears to be functioning.  Same result.  Finally figured out that if I pull the air box cover off, it runs great.  Put the cover on and it dies down to an idle with throttle wide open.  Thoughts?

Seems like its getting too much gas or your air filter is clogged.

Have you done any mods to it and if so what mods have you done ? What size are the pilot and main jets ?

And the auto choke plunger does move a few minutes after connecting it to a 12v power source.

Thanks for the reply.  I cleaned the filter, and I did test the choke and found it to be working.  I was able to get it going last night (although slow  . 

It came down to one of the following:

I found a crack in one of the vacuum lines going to the carb.
I had previously shortened the throttle cable to its max, so I put it back
I replaced the spark plug
I removed the snorkel in the air box cover.

Not sure which or all of these fixed the issue, but it is back to running ok.

Now, I'd like to get a little more speed out of it.  At the moment, the only adjusting I have done, is the put the parts in that came from the dealer for derestricting.  That was the smooth roller and the larger jet.  I can now get about 30 mph on flat ground.  It looks like you may have the same bike with some mods.  What would you suggest I do to gain more speed / power?  What was your biggest bang for the buck?  Thanks, Mike

The exhaust mod.



Ive opened the air box abit (that square inlet at the bottom of the airbox). I put a small shim in there because I opened it too much. With the #95 jet, I can open that square all the way but there is a dead spot in the idle at about 3/5 throttle; that I think tells me I need a bigger pilot (low throttle jet along with the #95 main jet). I get 42.5 MPH on a nice warm day.

What is the number for your Dr Pulley 8gr? I am searching on internet for match to my 2013 Kymco Super 8 2T but nothing comes up.
