2/3rd's the way to 1st service
« on: September 05, 2017, 02:40:12 PM »
440 miles on my Vietalian Piaggio. (VIN says Italy - but no way they can sell this scoot for $3k at Italian wages. So, figure it's the grandkids of my Pleiku buddies assembling these things.)
Getting excited. Oil and filter (s), valves, gear oil, etc.
Little rascal has a spin-on oil filter....but, being Italian, requires a special Vietnamese tool to remove...which is defeated, once again,  by a Yankee channel lock.
Will post the procedure  on this Kymco forum - because foremost, we are scooter lovers here and do not disparage owners of the lesser scoots ;-)

Filter for my Liberty seen here, upper left corner.
I'm going to start with a pair of channel locks - or a long allen wrench - have seen that used as well.
($32 for a Piaggio belt!)

Drain plug (big) is tight behind the exhaust pipe - so bought a short socket for it.

Having fun with this Vietalian !
Parked here in a Saigon alley....

Looks like an adjustable wrench would work with those. Funny still has the same plastic pre filter like my Aprilia.

When I rode Piaggio, I used an L-shaped Allen key (probably 6 or 8 mm) to change oil filters. Just put the short arm of the Allen key in the filter slot, and use a socket wrench to turn the other end. You have to keep enough pressure on the key to hold it in the slot.

my new piaggio bv 350  has the same filter as my downtown and frost and the same cover as the frost-yager, with three bolts holding it on, the little spring clips on to the filter so it does not fall off,

Hello dedee
First day home with scooter I was directed by Vespa forum to look at AF1racing.com
Good source for parts out of Texas. Downloaded their 2017/18 LIBERTY 150i official Piaggio  service manual . $8. !!

Iwill try to find one you mentioned. Can't  have too many service manuals with an unknown scooter in the house!
Thanks, Stig
