Scary scooter story...
« on: September 29, 2017, 09:04:35 PM »
Read this on another scooter forum.
Fellow buys a used Vespa.
A few days later, while running WOT for quite some time .....it dies.
He has not much $$, so hopes the fix is going to be simple.
He finds:
1) starter spins the engine much faster now, but no sign of starting.
2) just replaced the spark plug, but decides to check anyway.
Finds the plug end destroyed, with melted metal bits embedded in the plug.

Hopes a new plug will fix the problem.......

He may need to get a tube of Vespa scooter glue for the engine parts.

If the plug looked that bad, wonder what the top of the piston looks like. Sounds like it was running way lean.

Oh oh. If he doesn’t have much money, he better start saving some or find something to sell in exchange for a new engine. [emoji45][emoji45]

Yep, freely spinning engine sounds like no longer any compression.
Sad.

Hopefully he saved his money and didn't buy the replacement plug.

One of my new criteria for buying a vehicle is making sure it's not difficult to find a replacement engine.
