Rear Shock Upgrade?
« on: April 27, 2018, 11:44:50 AM »
Getting a new Like 200i, and need some advice on rear shocks.  I'm a big guy and the stock ones bottom right out.  What do you suggest?  Was looking at the 335mm Forsa Racing shocks, but not sure...

Not entirely sure how to go about finding a shock that can deal with more weight.
My concern would be that of purchasing aftermarket shocks which in fact do not increase the load rating. Cosmetic improvements are what riders so often end up with...if honest with self.

I would start with getting measurement of stock shock length, eye to eye; number of spring coils and spring thickness.
And present your need to a well established supply house with a knowledgeable shock salesman.

Shocks listed as "racing" or "heavy duty"....are plentiful, but ?

Of course you've tried setting pre-load to highest notch....and still bottoming? Tire pressure no higher than specified in manual for two-up riding?

I resolved harsh ride of my LIKE200i by rebuilding the seat with @3" of extra foam. After that I  quit looking for the "magic ride shocks".... but then I wasn't bottoming the suspension, just needing to get away from that seat pan ridge.
Your search will be of great interest to many LIKE owners!

Haven't received the bike yet, but in the showroom I bottomed the shocks just by sitting on it.  Im 6'2" and weigh 318 pounds, you see.  Will definitely do my research, and will get the right shocks, but was just wondering if anyone had the same experience and what their solution was.  And before anyone says I'm just too big for this scooter, my last one was a Ruckus!

Please set the shock preload to max, and take a ride before spending $ on aftermarket stuff. The LIKE is rated to support your weight + a bit more.
I am 6'3", 265 and can bottom most scooter shocks on the showroom floor.

Yes, severe holes and bumps can bottom a LIKE under me - but I understand how little suspension travel all scooters have  (including $12K maxis) and choose my routes by the best road surfaces.

Yeah, little guys can go off-roading on a LIKE, but they're not going to like it-  while healthy guys like us gotta stay on the pavement. :)

Again, try it after setting the shock preload, see what you think. Moving down the road makes a big difference.
