This DRL/headlights-always-on has always bugged me ever since some Kansas drivers installed one white light in the center of their grilles in the early 60's. Now we have headlights always on in the US. Euro Kymco DT have a switch on the right handlebar to turn the lights on. So that means they don't have a 6 amp drain when starting! I looked at the euro wiring diagram and found the switch, the wiring and logic of how it works. Then looked at the US wiring and it shows the same color (green/white tracer) running to and from the right handle switch group! I split the switch housing on my DT yesterday and saw that wire! It just loops into and out of the housing and there is a flat spot on the rear of the housing for a switch. It is decorated with a shiny black stick-on so it doesn't look like they forgot something. Kymco does not list the switches in these housings. You gotta buy the whole assembly, naturally. I would bet you could not get the European assembly if you wanted to. So I been lookin' at switches this morning and have kinda stuck out as most miniature and sub-miniature switches are TOO BIG! Guess I will have to find some scooter scrap yards in Europe.....

Any ideas or suggestions beside forgetting the project?

you are good at finding  how the wiring works   check out the wiring in my piaggio b v 350 it has a delay switch for the lights on start up, stigs scooter too.,maybe

Euro regs changed over winter 16/17 and all ours how have permanent headlights too. I agree it's undesirable when the engine's not running!

Yes; I was over at the local one today, I can look for a DT300 switchgear around, I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Yeah, I was going to say, doesn't it delay the lights during the starting process?
My VW's had the same.
I remember those goofy grill lights - then they went to purple in Massachusetts.

(sorry - I'm slow to give the Italians credit for much after watching all those flaming F1 refuelings, and 3 tire-d pit stops. "Eh ! -- whosa got the other wheela ??!")

No delay. A delay would ease the starting or lights on after engine start would do the same. F1 was not impressive as modern NASCAR! Wow!

Here is the switch I want to use in this pdf. Slide switch, spst, panel mount with snap on thumb actuator.

That was incomvenient! Anyway, you can download if curious....

Justification is our KIA minivan has a switch for on, off auto & park. The Chevy Spark (Daewoo, South Korea) has that irritating DRL that is ALWAYS there but you can turn it off each time you start the engine. So either on I can turn off the headlights. Maybe soon on the scoot I can do the same thing.
