Vibrations by Footbed more than before. What could it be?
« on: April 14, 2018, 02:41:50 AM »
Hello Gents,

Since I have had my last couple of services I have noticed more and more vibrations from the footbed/Front end and I am perplexed as to what it could be.

They placed a new primary clutch assembly on the bike because of thread wear at the end of the original. Now, my understanding is the primary and secondary clutch are not evenly worn when they replaced the primary with a new one.

Ever since then I have been experiencing a increasing amount of Vibrations. First from the front end, then from what seems to be the footbed area.

Any other possible causes?

Does it vary with the RPM.  put it on the center stand and rev it , is it the tire or the variator  the front tire when you are rolling

This is the first I've heard these terms. To clarify, primary clutch is the variator and secondary clutch is the clutch? And they only replaced the primary clutch, and NOT the secondary?

I'm also wondering about this thread wear? There's no threads to wear.

Since vibration started after they did work, I'd be most suspicious of the work they did, or the new parts.

I'm with Hypo on this, except I may be a bit more blunt. Your tech's either snowed you or you may have misunderstood. There is one clutch that I know of on these CVT bikes. No primary and secondary. They "may" have been referring to the pulley parts including the roller weights at the front of the CVT as the primary clutch. Many golf carts use the front, engine mounted pulley as the clutch but not on Kymcos. The thread wear they referenced may be on the crankshaft extension that front pulley is mounted. Probably means the threads were damaged when they drove the nut on crooked with an impact. The secondary clutch probably is the rear one and only clutch on the CVT, the one with the "brake shoes" that are spring loaded to the disengaged position. Your vibration is either 1. the front pulley was not completely collapsed, metal to metal when they tightened the nut so the assembly is loose during operation, creating more vibration as the parts chew each other up or 2. they bent something by force during reassembly or both. The increasing vibration meaning it is getting worse the more you ride points to number 1. Most of these shops do not realize the belt needs to be WAY down into that back pulley before that front nut is tightened. There is a special tool for making this easy but few if none of the dealers have invested in them.

back in 2012 bike was new ,   I took it apart and installed Dr. pulleys sliders, never heard of tukking the belt in clutch pulley,
but thinking of mashing the belt when tightening the bolt I rotate the pulley as I tighten the bolt so I never had a problem,  been doing that ever since, had it apart 40 or 50 times, playing with the Wt.s

I agree, De dee, that is a way to do it! Should work well, wish I had thought of it!!

Sorry lemme clarify.

It was the CLUTCH assembly not the throttle assembly. My mistake.

And it was the threads on the bearings holding the clutch assembly in place. There is a primary and a secondary clutch. And this inconsistency began after the installed the new primary clutch.

Guys,

i'm gonna talk to the Tech again and get some more information from him and the correct terminology then get back to you. I'm pretty sure he said there is a primary and secondary clutch assembly.

To my current knowledge the following occurred.

When I had the problem with my drive wheel not moving when power was off and moving forward without throttle when power was on, it turned out that it was one of the clutch assemblies. Specifically the secondary clutch assembly, not the primary as I had thought before. The secondary clutch assembly was replaced per Kymco. Since then my top end has lost about 5 mph. I used to get halfway between 90-100 and now it stops at 90 mph.

It only happened after the secondary clutch was replaced. Additionally when I test the bike at around 90 mph it feels as if something is 'catching'.

I really need the experts to chime in on what this could be the result of.
