Safety Gear - Seeking
« on: May 31, 2018, 04:24:09 AM »
Fellow scooterers:

I recently purchased a jacket for my lovely spouse, so that we can ride 2up. Today, we were going out for our first "familiarization ride" and we discovered that the eBay purchased jacket (nearly new, no stains, no tears, no problems!) simply did not have any shoulder armor in it. It has the back armor, and the elbow-sleeve armor, but the shoulder pockets are empty!

Here's a photo of the jacket

It's a FirstGear Contour Mesh Women's jacket, size M.

Does anyone out there have any spare or surplus jacket armor they'd be willing to sell cheaply to another forum member? On eBay, replacement armor seems to be running around $30 a set, which is crazy expensive, considering I paid less than $40 for this jacket.

Two things to consider...
1) The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse always gets the cheese.
2) Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines.

If you were in Vancouver, BC, I'd simply give you some. But I imagine it would be cost prohibitive to mail and keep intact.

You could go to a foam upholstery biz, and get them to cut you a piece, as they have different densities in stock.

It really should be CE certified material.

$35 for a set of CE2 rated D30 orange shoulder pads are a great investment.
What is in the elbow and back pad pockets? The black hard rubber in the elbow and soft black foam in the back panel?
Replace them both with the same quality orange D30 armor.

Should have had those pads in there. CE.

I’d double check all the other padding to see if a switch was made.

I don't know if they've finally fixed it with D3O armour, but I don't recommend bending the armour in storage. Customer bought back D3O armoured jacket once. All of the armour pieces seemed to have fragmented. I suspect he may have crammed his jacket tightly into a top case or side case on his touring bike. The jacket didn't have any evidence of crash impact.

I still would buy D3O armour, but it might be worth keeping in mind no matter what gear you're using.

Thanks for the knowledgeable replies gang! I learned something here today.

I think I've found a replacement pair of shoulder pads, so my inquiry is no longer viable.

Many thanks for those who offered illumination!
