Yet another dilemma! I swear, I'm not creating new ones!

While I was trying to figure out exactly what I'm going to do about the mirrors striking the windscreen problem, I noticed an icon on my instrument cluster that I'd never seen before, and so I made a trip into the Owner's Manual to look it up.

To my dismay, I found that the image of the Instrument Cluster in the manual, looks nothing like the actual IC!

Notice the yellow icon of the cell phone at the right, underneath the turn signal indicator light?

I have absolutely no clue what that is, nor what it does. I opened up my phone's Bluetooth, only to discover there's no devices to make connection with, so it can't be any kind of Bluetooth app on the bike.

Anyone have any idea what it is?

I just did a quick google and found that the light means the cell phone socket is being used.  This is from a manual for a Xciting 250/500

Some scooters have an annoying function where they notice that there's mobile phone communication going on; which is all the time with a modern smartphone; see what happens if you turn your phone off!

Welcome to Kymco, Evil! We are laughing WITH you not AT you! There is much misinformation and many errors in both the Owners and service manuals. You came to the right place for the straight "skinny" on how things work. I would guess that cell-phone-plugged-in light is probably current sensitive and not RF detection. It would be the simplest method and the cheapest. So either your phone is in there or there is a malfunction.

Viper, I haven't ever plugged anything into the bike, so I wouldn't know what would happen, phone or no phone. I don't even know where the plug is supposed to be in the first place! I guess I'm going to have to find out...

Karl, "Hero Member" is right. This bike is so new that I just don't want to have to guess at all. I'm even getting nervous that I'm not breaking it in correctly. Both the dealer's instructions and the manual's instructions are maddeningly imprecise. I'm not gunning it, I'm not going on the highway, and I am trying not to cruise at a given speed for very long. Which brings up the question, when they say "don't keep it at a steady RPM for very long" how do you know what they mean for "very long"? Ten yards? Ten Miles? Ten Minutes? Argh!!

Yeah, break in is a pain to get through.
Lotta fun changing your speed in traffic!

Doesn't have to be great changes in speed - just roll off a touch then back to speed....every few minutes (whatever you can stand)
Remember a lot of guys just ride it like it's stolen - and they want to break it.(last bit is my opinion of this behavior)


NO steady slow or fast - make changes.


Pretty certain nothing you do is going to break it. New owners have jumped on interstates  and ridden their new scoot home at WOT for 30 miles to their house. (dumb!) I had my Piaggio delivered because there was no way home but 55MPH roads.

And pages & pages have been written about the "stolen " theory!

Update:

I broke down and bought a cigarette-lighter plug in type charger. Started the bike up, plugged it in, and the little phone light on the dash came on! It means something's hooked up to it!

A small victory, but something upon which to hang the hat.

Yup mine comes on when I have a cell phone plugged in charging.
