At my dealer, if you ask - they push Amsoil and Belray, or the big 4  bike specific brands.
I don't expect them to carry anything else. They cannot compete with walmart.....except by selling stuff they don't.
Amsoil sells "scooter" oil from their web site.

Your local dealer likely is mixing old information with his personal preferences. What he says may have been true for synthetics YEARS ago.  But both conventional AND synthetic oil formulations have improved since then. I don’t ALWAYS Assume the WORST motives in people. Some simply don’t know any better or refuse to UNLEARN something once better information is available. Nowhere is that more true than in the car of Motor oils. I remember when manufacturers first started recommending thinner oils such as 5w-30 in 4 cylinder engines. MANY people insisted on using 20w-50 because that’s what was best When they first started driving. They thought the thinner oils was some grand conspiracy to make engines wear out faster , so you’d have to buy another car sooner.

Thanks, you are too kind. I guess it may be because of my parents. They realized that no everyone was honest. But not everyone was a crook either. Also, my mother recently said that sometimes folks will take advantage of me. But I’ll  be ok because God will minimize the damage. Just make sure I’m NOT the one taking advantage of someone else. That would be the REAL tragedy.

I guess when the sun doesn’t shine, I’ll just carry a flashlight so to speak. Lol.

My father was an independent mechanic. And at various times he sold gasoline too. The first time he was on the major thoroughfare in Tallahassee. And he was able to sell gas at a competitive price. The next time he was in a neighborhood with much less traffic. So the quantity was much less. We noticed that the high traffic stations were selling gas at the price he paid WHOLESALE. Also, when Autozone and Advance Auto Parts (formerly Discount auto parts) came to town, we mostly purchased our oil from them by the case. When his regular parts guy asked what we paid in the hopes he could come close to matching the price, we told him. He then said that he couldn’t be mad at us because they were able to sell it RETAIL for what he was paying WHOLESALE.
So I understand why Most scooter dealers charge significantly more for oil and other common parts. They simply don’t sell enough to get the discounts. Again, some are dishonest. But most are simply trying to figure a way to make a profit while doing what they love. I remember the Kymco dealer admitted that he would sometimes wait until he had a large enough order to get a discount on shipping. So he didn’t order every day. However, they seemed to take pride in their work. Their labor was not cheap. But it was much less expensive than the motorcycle shops.

Side note. When you find out that you can buy a small car for what they charge for my PROSTHETIC LEG that’s nowhere near the most advanced or expensive (approximately $25,000) , and when you realize that a spring, hub, shock, steering knuckle, wheel , and tire on an f250 Cost much less than a suspension system (one below knee leg and foot assembly) to support a 170 pound man, Very few things seem overpriced anymore [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I do not waste money on fancy/expensive oils----WalMart house brand works for me---air cooled/water cooled, 10-40,  and last 500,000 2 wheel miles=no oil related engine trouble---used in BMW-75, Suzuki 500ES, scooters from Honda/Suzuki/Honda, and Honda CB300F----my new Kymco Xtown 300 will get WalMart 10-40 when I do 600 mile check.

When I was a courier and running the 110cc I was using at the time 100-200 miles a day, I swore by fully synth.

But for the majority of users, as long as you don't skip oil changes, I think you'll be fine with most stuff.
