Google the name (ride on tire sealant). I have used this for years. It is much better than slime (the green stuff, in my oppinion). It does not dry out, damage metal, cleans up with water, non toxic, balances the tire (it really does-u will not believe how much smoother your bike is). Using ride on it is almost impossible to get a flat in the tread area. Seals instantly nail holes & such. Try it and u will be a believer for life. :-*

Bumping this for two reasons: 1. Tire plugs 2. Ride On sealant/balancer.

I have searched NTSB files and find that 2016 had 44000 crashes due to tires failing. Tire plugs of any kind not mentioned.

Sissy Mary mentioned Ride On a long time ago and I missed it!

Bump again: check "tire plugs" on ADVrider.Com for a lively discussion on many successful aplications of "worms, sticky rope, sticky string, etc." that lasted for the life of the tire. Then proceed with caution.

Here my answer, YES!   I’ve done it on my big bike for another 1500 miles till the tire wore itself out.

BUT I WOILD HIGHLY RECOMMEND ISING A PATCH PLUG!!!!!   That’s what I used. Tire has to come off for that but it’s much safer.

I have plugged enough tires to learn a few things: the puncture must be from a nail, something round, or it will leak. Never plug the side wall. Best is putting a patch inside but I have had good luck with plugs. It's not as if the tire will fail, it may leak a little but you will catch it by checking the plug for leaking after riding on it a while.

Anyone out there have a bad experience with a plug?

I have plugged a couple of tires with plugs from motorcycle plug kits.  The first was a BMW plug kit and the second was a Dynaplug.  Both leaked air.  I have plugged multiple tires using the sticky string plugs that you can buy at Wally World or auto parts stores and never had any issues with them.  I have plugged tires with the sticky strings and then rode them until they were worn out.  All of these were rear tires.  The sticky string work fine even if the hole is not round.  I had a friend with a slash in his rear tire.  I didn't think it could be plugged but a sticky string did the job.  He replaced that tire after he got it home.  I once put another 14,000 miles on a plugged rear tire on my 83 Yamaha Venture.

I once had a really big hole in a rear tire.  It took two sticky strings to plug it but it got me home.  I did not continue to ride on that tire.

My advice.  Forget about those fancy motorcycle plug kits and buy a cheap plug kit from Wall Mart.  The plugs installed from the inside would be even better but very few dealers will install one for you due to liability concerns.  If you get a hole in a front tire I'd plug it but would replace the tire.

It is this kind of nearly universal testimony that leads me to conclude that first, the US Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) has started a self-serving campaign to sell more tires and second, that the sticky worm, rope or string is probably as reliable a repair as you can find. Coming from Klaviator is valid because he probably rides more miles than anyone! There. I put in a plug for Klaviator! Oh, that's a pun! Oh, my head hurts....

My experience is the same. 2 years ago I visited a Cycle Gear for the first time. Salesman convinced me to purchase the Dyna Plug. Tried it on my mower tire first. Leaked. It was a small hole caused by a rose bush thorn. Next was a small roofing nail in my Swing rear tire 3 months ago. Ok, the tire is different and the salesman did recommend it for motorcycle tires.. It leaked. Had also bought a Plug N Go kit on Amazon. Thought maybe the hole was too big for the Dyna Plug so tried the Plug and Go as I've had good luck with it on the car and mower tires. Leaked. Tried it 3 times. Stuck in the sticky worm and sealed. Next trip to Wally World, purchased another sticky worm kit to keep in the XC. So I have 2 sticky worm kits in plastic boxes and just take the Slime Compressor OR my bicycle mini pump(more work, but does work) on which ever ride I take. As a side note, funny (strange, not HaHa funny) thing is that ALL my flats have occurred in Alabama.

Thanks for sharing, Klav and Clamp. I love my Slime compressor just for its name alone, but also because mine won't die after ten year's use.

I hope you learned your lesson, Clamp, you gotta stay outta Alabama.

I'm off to WalMart for some sticky string...

So no one here has used a patch plug?   I assure you it won’t leak and it seals it tight.  Again, I had to remove the tire to do so but my rear tire cost me $300 so I if I was able to save it then I was going to.   Those patch plugs come in different sizes.

My top three vomitous arguments: How much is your life worth? How much is your head worth (when shopping for a helmet)? If it saves even one life it's worth it (a favorite of politicians).

I keep a plug kit and a little "slime" air compressor in my glove box.
mostly just to help not get stranded. Ya know what they say.... an ounce of protection....
