Is BESTEM out of top case business?
« on: October 04, 2018, 11:41:50 PM »
Was going to recommend a Bestem case to someone here - and looked at their web site, and on amazon.
Seems they are no longer selling top cases....is this correct?

Anyone know what the story is?
I love my lighted Bestem case - it was a real bargain at @$120 ---featured fully installed, wrap-around LED running lights and  brake lights! The case came with the installation hardware, and back rest as well.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Last I talked to them on the topic, a few months back.  Yup they're out with no immediate plans to get back into it.

They have a few parts left over but that's about it.

They were the best thing at the price point when I bought one for the burger.

I can see why they backed out in some regards.
Mine's old enough that it has the orange plastic mid section (plasti dipped black now).  Back then they were the only decent case I could find in the price range

These days there seem to be a lot more in that range, or undercutting them, online, some of which get reports (In ADV usually) that they're good 'nuff vs. the complete junk a lot of them were back when I got mine.  couple that with them not raising their prices much over the years and I suspect the margin's shot on 'em.

Pity, they were always good to deal with in my experience, & even some options over the years (The LED light, liner, & top rack), but I suspect we've seen the last of them.
Wouldn't mind finding their original supplier but I couldn't talk 'em into sharing it with me, & only have a suspect that had a case that looked a lot like the 929 for a while.
Tough to say with the Chinese companies of course.  They tend to knock each other (and others) off quite a bit.  http://en.adlo.net/products_detail/productId=72.html if you're interested.

There's only a handful of top box suppliers in China (I used to work in import until 2015) and the market is ludicrously competitive - there isn't really much room between the £20 top box cheap and cheerful models and the £100 top-of-the-range Givi models.

My 37L Chinese box lived seven years in all-weather riding, on the back of my KLE500, CBR1000 and a few other junkers in between.

Looks like Bestem might have fallen foul of a competitive market. I was also looking around for one of their cases recently and couldn't find a comparable model. I suspect I'll end up deconstructing and gluing LEDs into a cheaper box.
