Iridium Install
« on: October 08, 2018, 05:08:10 PM »
Howdy.  Just put an iridium plug in my Like 200i.  Did it when I had it apart to check the valves.  That's a bit awkward going through the front acess panel; had to be VERY careful not to cross the threads.  Has anyone tried taking off the side panel, too?  Does it help any?  Hate to remove plastic, always think my ham fists are gonna bust something...

There is no "side panel". Both sides and rear tail light are of one piece, from one side around to the other.

Yes, lots of things would be easier to deal with if that big body panel is removed (like replacing the coil, and rear shocks) - but as for the spark plug, yeah, takes a careful install. I place it in a locking spark plug socket which is attached to a short extension....and then thread if very carefully. I also remove the under seat bucket to do the plug replace....to get both hands in there to steady things....and more light.

The good news with an Iridium plug is that you'll only need to thread 2 or 3 in - in 100,000 miles. Specs I've read said they are good for 30>50,000 miles in a bike. I checked mine once after a few thousand to see the color - then spun a new one in (since I can't find spark-plug crush washers)....and forgot about it. If given no cause - I won't spin a new one in for a few years.

That's a good idea about taking the bottom panel off, probably would have helped.  Got the plug in, and noticed an improvement.  Smoother idle and a little quicker of the line, maybe another mph on top.  Nice.  As an aside, adjusted the valves once at 200 miles, the exhaust was slightly tight.  Just did them at 750 miles, and both were spot on.  Also nice.

Yeah, the steadier idle while sitting in traffic is very reassuring and the main reason that I promote a switch to an Iridium plug for the LIKE200i.
Have used them in 3 scooters to good effect. Standard now in some scooters.
