Almost time for a service, Take it to Shop or do it myself?
« on: August 30, 2010, 04:58:01 PM »
I'm at 600km on my new People 150.  Dealer said i should bring it in for service when im at 1000km.  What exactly do they do?  And is it something easy like just changing the oil?

They should change the oil, check valve adjustment and air filter . set idle and air screw. and general going over brakes and What not.
You can do it all,but probably should let the shop do the first one (for warranty)
and consider going to a synthetic oil around the next service time.

No, but some mistakenly believe that they must have regular maintenance performed at an authorized dealer in order to keep their warranty in effect. In the U.S., the Magnuson-Moss act was passed in 1975 to protect consumers from unreasonable restrictions placed on manufacturer warranties.

The only problem is that world consists of few more countries other than USA. :)
Anywhere in Europe, you need to do regular maintenance at an authorized dealer inside warranty period...

It's more of an insurace issue you will have documentation that it was done by them, so if any issues pop up there is no hassle or loop hole for them to try to wiggle out of there responsability.
If there are major defects they will usually show in the first few hundred miles.
Me personaly I would have my warranty voided within hours of leaving the lot  ;D  But would keep the stock parts around to put back on just incase  ;)

Just another thought my sister bought one awhile back and the dealer wanted her to bring it in at 400 to 600 for a free service and offerd a free oil change for the next. Not all dealers are the same, but this helps build repeat costumers for him and I think he just wanted to check it out since it was at his place for some time. A new 2009 model.

I am firm believer in taking the scoter in for the first and possibly second recommeded service. The dealer has the specs and should give the scooter a 100% look over and besure everything it tight and functioning properly. I had my 500 in in for the first check and they found the side stand was beginig to loosen...somethin I never een noticed and corrected the situation.

When I took my first scooter (a honda metropolitan) in for the first check up the dealer did not check the tire pressure nor adjust the brakes . I know because I had to do them . All I know that they did was change the oil which they overfilled . I was charged $70.00 . I decided to do my own service after that .
