CVT box Air Filters - on which Kymco models ?
« on: March 04, 2019, 06:27:45 PM »
Stupid question - during the previous week I became aware of the fact that some smallish Suzuki scooters come with air filters at the intake of the CVT boxes. I did some reading about the subject and became aware of the importance to get clean, filtered air into CVT boxes. In fact - air filters on CVT boxes seem to be quite common.

Unfortunately I can’t find my scooter’s Owners Manual at the moment, and I haven’t seen any CVT air filter on my scooter (2009 Agility 125) when I opened the CVT box quite recently.

So here’s my question: Do any Kymco scooters come with air filters on it’s CVT boxes, and if so - on which models ?

I know there are CVT air filters on the 2013 People GTi300 and the Downtown 300i and none on the Yager 200i.

no air filter on my 2011 downtown 300i ,  tranny   ,  and no way to install one , you would have to buy a new tranny cover to get that feature,  at 87.000 km.  I have never had any problems with heating or to much dirt getting in,.

Nope, don't think you need to worry about a CVT filter on you scoot. These smaller scoots survive just fine in 3rd world situations.....so you can ride worry free on your roads.

Thanks for the replies.
When I opened my scooter’s CVT box I found a layer of sticky belt dust inside the cover, but I couldn’t see any other dirt or dust. Dust could be trapped in the rubber dust inside the housing, I guess that could be the reason why I didn’t see any normal dust.

I think air filters might be good, but it will cause overheating problems once it got dirty. According to info on the web a dirty CVT air filter will shorten the lifespan of a CVT belt due to overheating problems.

By the way - most of our local roads are similar to roads in the US, there are no differences in riding conditions. The only differences I can think of - we ride on the “wrong” side of the road, our winters are not that cold, and we hardly ever get snow on our roads.

Anyway, I think the high mileage without problems mentioned here is proof that there should be no reason to worry about the absence of an air filter.
Thanks again.
