Hey y'all,
I bought me a new CDI box on ebay and received it today: Ignition Coil 6 Pin DC CDI For Kymco SYM Vento GY6 50 125cc 150cc Moped Scooter
However, silly me I forgot to check the measurements and model number properly and notice the new one is shorter then the original? The pin seems to fit properly.
Kymco - TYC-D401: 55mm x 92mm x 25mm
New CDI: 50mm x 75mm x 25mm
I haven't tested it yet since the old one is still working for now and will eventually need to change it.
What you guys think, does it really matter? I feel the original is the best to buy but jumped the gun and bought what I saw.
Thanks in advance
Sorry about this late reply. Unfortunately at the time of your initial post I was not active at this forum.
According to the part number on your original CDI, your scooter has a similar CDI than mine - which is a DC CDI.
Unfortunately size do matter - unlike AC CDI's , DC CDI's have capacitors built into the the CDI's. Therefore DC CDI's are always bigger than AC CDI's.
Chances are about 100% that the new CDI is an AC CDI, and it will not work on your scooter. Even if the plugs on the CDI is the same as the plugs on the original CDI, the new CDI will not work on your scooter.
Some time ago I made the same mistake by ordering a CDI which didn't work. The CDI I ordered was also smaller, the plugs on the new CDI looked similar to the plugs on the original CDI, but the new CDI didn't work.
In my case I actually plugged the new CDI in to see if it works on the scooter. It didn't work - and nothing got damaged. So you could also just plug the new CDI in to see if it works, nothing should be damaged. But I am quite sure it will not work on your scooter.
You could have a look at this thread for more information about the CDI's on our scooters:
