back up camera ?
« on: March 27, 2019, 11:00:49 AM »
hello everybody,
I have some add on's to put on my 700 prime you know the normal stuff, light bar tiger tail and rear view mirrors I got a rear view mirror that bolts up in side the cab but here is the rub. the roof comes down the back of the cab so much that I can barely see what's behind me unless it's right on my butt. I don't want to put on side mirrors because I would have to notch the windshield to make them fit correctly. so I was wondering what about a backup camera ?  I was thinking I could put a switch on it to turn it on and off when I needed to, it's not so much for backing up as it is for watching for folks behind me when riding in a group. just want to know what people's thoughts were on this

Some of these wireless bluetooth cameras are so cheap that this is a great idea! Banggood.com has at least three of whatever you want!

Try a different inside mirror, mine drops down low enough so you can easily look under the roof.  I use my side mirrors more than the inside mirror, make the notches for them as it is well worth it.
I have the fold in on impact type and they work great.

Just a thought- if you have the windshield that wraps around the front bars requiring minor surgery to mount side mirrors, and you have the Kymco factory mirrors, Shining a flashlight through the mirror mount holes from the cab side out will project a point of light on the side of the windshield where you need to drill a hole that will allow mounting the mirror....Using one of those newer LED flashlights will give you quite a bit of light to project onto the windshield.
Mounted mine that way and didnt have to notch the windshield....came out pretty clean...

YMMV....

FWIW, any wireless cameras that I have used have always been subject to interference, giving poor picture quality....Also, the brightness of the screen on the low end camera monitors leaves a lot to be desired in bright daylight... I have always gone to a hard wired camera which fixes the interference problem but the monitor screen problem remains....(Works great at night though!!)

By Heck, you are right about the screen in daylight! That's one of the drawbacks of using a phone for your GPS, I think.

thank you for the feed back now I can start weighing my options I prefer side mirrors myself I just wasn't sure if I should fool around with the windshield being afraid I might break it or something,
but for those who have side mirrors, any issues with them snagging on branches or getting them torn off that is another concern I have

my side mirrors fold, never had them torn off, My mirrors are rectangular in shape, I have the right hand side one set vertical so I can look closely at the right rear wheel when backing, in the vertical position, it's tighter to the roll bar, I have never whacked it out of adjustment .on the Left side, I have it set horizontal, I can see everything except the rear wheel on the other side with this mirror, it sticks out quite a bit, and I have folded it several times, but it is within reach to adjust on the fly
