Intermittent no start

Actually, two times abnormal starts. Meaning did not start after second revolution which is normal. So when it spins through 3 and 4 revolutions, it is key off, back on try again and both instances it fired up normally.

So, today, we investigate. First checked the valves: ho-hum, no change. Button that back up. Then try back flush injector since no codes or CELP light. What!? No fuel pump noise on self-check?! Bingo! Code 33 with blinking CELP light. Ugh! Turned injector back around to see if it would spray IF the fuel pump would come on. Sure enough, the pump ran and got a fine spray for both self check and bumped starter.

All this means is the failed starts were caused either by another failed pump/injector relay or faulty connection. Will up date when I pull the nose off to check relays. Got a coffee can full of 12 volt auto relays! I must be the only one having relay problems....

Karl, it never fails to start - but sometimes needs more than one try with the key - is that correct?

Some older gentlemen are known to be rather thrifty.

Update: went full-tilt boogie today chasing the Code 33 relay. Identified all the relays under the nose since the wire color coding does not, repeat, NOT follow the wiring diagram! The fuel pump relay identified and replaced. The OEM relay is a neat little unit rated at 8 amps. This seems suitable for every application EXCEPT supplying power to both the fuel pump and injector. The replacement relay is an automotive/industrial unit rated at 40 amps! Will advise of further developments.

Update: the pictures are of the standard relay in many Kymco models. Looks well-made and was sealed up before the shell was removed. The contact (from what I could see of it) looked nominal so I have no idea why it would not energize the fuel pump. This relay will be a spare.

Automotive relay draws less current upon activation. OEM @ 167 milliamps. Auto @ 125 milliamps. Not much difference...

Same thing happened to me years ago, but only when pressing the starter switch. I just swapped the relays and it went away. But you are right a generic 30A 4 pin relay is much better.
