What parts to keep on hand

With all of the discussion on this site about the inconsistency some have described in getting parts it seems prudent to keep a few common spares on hand.

Any idea which parts it would make since for a DYI'r to keep on hand?  What do you all have spares of?

PS - My scooter is an X-Town 300i.

Not that I've ever had a problem getting parts for 7 yr old LIKE200i. ....but first purchases into spares drawer were: belt, airfilter, brake pads, one each fresh variator and clutch nuts, headlight bulb.

Only things used so far are the nuts, Dr Pulley sliders, slide pieces, and a belt in 14750 miles.
Did buy an OEM whole fresh assembled clutch and bell bought at special sale low price. Stll in the wrapper today.
Lay in normal consumables. ..for later servicing and forgeddaboutitt!

Only things I can see for my 2019 Xtown 300I that I need to keep on hand (bike now has 5,000 miles)

1. new OEM spare drive belt (I hate walking)

2. exhaust pipe to muffler gasket----gasket can  get destroyed during rear wheel removal.  Gasket failure=lots of noise

I have spare spark plug and any nuts and bolts that might fall off...I have in my garage collection.



Kymco says replace drive belt at 10,000 miles---I will try 12-15,000 miles, at 10,000 miles I will check valves, pull plug out---Never Seize on threads, gap, replace if necessary.   Maybe look at air cleaner?  As I ride alot,and  do not keep bikes/scooters beyond 50,000 miles, I tend not to worry about keeping any parts other than those mentioned...just use and ride the bike.Of course there are tire replacements to think of....I use Dennis Kirk as my tire source, as their stock is usually fresh and prices ok. I do own tire work----so unless warranty failure, my bikes never go back to dealer service dept.


One warning on Xtown 300i----only 1 qt oil capacity, no filter, I tend to change oil every 1,000 miles when at home---trip 2,000 miles as those miles put on 5-10day period WalMart house brand 10-40.

It's a good idea to have extra fluids stored somewhere - including engine oil (since the Xtown has no filter), gear oil and coolant. Keeping spare air filters and spark plugs is also handy as you can DIY change them yourself.

Other consumables include belts (I keep one under the seat in case, but no issues in 79,000km for my DT300) and a basic socket set. I don't keep spare tyres because they take years to wear out and I like to change the brand or model anyway. Same with brake pads - they take years to wear out. In my garage I keep a battery charger and jumpstarter along with some extra tools (e.g. impact driver).
