Looks to me scooter interest/use dead in USA
« on: June 26, 2019, 12:54:05 PM »
Recent 2,700 mile scooter trip, saw three big scooters only----of these 2 were Kymcos in pickup bed, one SilverWing in parking lot in Houghton, Mich----none actually out riding.    A few 50cc's in small towns.

Never passed a Kymco Dealer or Vespa dealer for that matter.

I doubt only a few new scooters are being sold this year=sad.

I enjoy scooters/use them.....like the dry feet thing, feet stayed dry in spite of three days of hard rain---Aerostich Combat Lite boots-----do not like the distance of nose from tip of windshield....cause of buffeting and I am on my 10th or 11th new maxi-scooter, over 400,000 miles on them....all lots of buffeting, maybe no harm but is tiring----my experience only Vespa can be made buffet free with right windshield and shield height

Think people are going to hang on to their (mostly oversized) cars and trucks until the repo man takes them away.
So many are said to be struggling financially but continue traveling in vehicles they can't afford.
Doubt most people realize how much of their income goes toward their autos, or how much they would save
commuting by scooter.  Not to mention how much fun it is!
2014 BV 350  "IndiGO" (fast, strong and tireless)
2006 Honda Rebel 250  "Snow Leopard" (stealthy, agile and durable)
2018 Lance Cali Classic 200i  "Black Panther" (smooth, nimble, quiet and quick)
2016 Wolf V-50 (sold)

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here

Intetest in scooters down?....good time to buy new, or, even better - lightly used!
I just love riding. They quit selling scooters - I'll buy a nice Japanese 250 or 300cc motorcycle! A Japanese 300 bike is less than a 300cc Taiwanese scooter anyway. Be fun to learn routine servicing on them..

I see quite a few scooters running around Albuquerque.  Not sure which is cause and which is effect: Interest or the presence of dealers.

Scoot Albuquerque is both a Kymco and Vespa dealer.  Lobo Scooters is a dealer for small scooters across the street from UNM campus.
There are several motorcycle dealers that sideline in scooters as well.

I agree that maxi scooters are few and far between. Living in a college town I see a LOT of 50-150cc scooters in use (mostly Chinese).

I was working in Chicago this week and stopped by a cool dealership, Motoworks Chicago, who also sells Vespa, and they had a lot of inventory plus a lot of Vespas in for service, a good sign.  Scooters are great 'in town' vehicles but not too common on the highways.

We seem to have more in the UK, where scooters remain as the transport of the lower classes... for want of a less broad generalisation.

Geography.
If you were to ride in these parts you would find scooter sightings not uncommon at all. Same with dealers. Here they are transposition and we see plenty of 125-150cc scoots. Mostly Buddys and kymcos. Maxis not common but still see a couple a day.
