A flying HD
« on: July 27, 2019, 02:57:12 PM »
I could hear the B-25 twin engine WWII bomber flying over this morning - even over the noise of my mower.
This thing sounds ("snarls") like a pair of Harley Davidson engines up there!
On clear days the local restorers take their bomber out for flights around the area.
I cannot image what an English child must have experienced when a thousand heavy bombers were flying over in WWII. Those fly-overs lasted an hour sometimes. My father was a navigator on one. He never talked about it. Ironically, my brother and I were born post-war in Germany, as my father remained with the occupational forces.
My 18 yr old mom joined him in Munich from her home in Dayton.
Can you imagine the sight and rumble of those planes as they headed across the channel?

Our local airport has an annual event called " Airport Days" when WWII aircraft are featured. A couple of years ago a B-25 was making touch and go landing approaches in prep for the show. They came in low over the K-Mart parking lot next to the airport and set off all the car alarms in the lot!
