Learned some important stuff recently while pursuing another matter. I am sure most of you know this but ill put it here in case someone has not: there are two types of reg/rect for alternator systems like ours and they are 1. Shorting type and 2. Open type. Parallel and series, shunt and series all the same. We have the shorting type! That means the stator is putting out 100% ALL THE TIME!! This genius Jack over at www.roadstercycle.com has all the poop on both types. All us techies need to visit and learn since the open type is more expensive it is a STATOR SAVER!

That mosfet reg-rectifier is a great idea. Efficiently turning 3-phase AC into DC charging directly into battery terminals. I guess what manufacturers are doing nowadays is LED lighting in the headlights, brake lights and indicators to reduce power drain.

I have no idea WHY the mosfet r/r is supposed to be so much better. Can you enlighten me, mouse?

These sites probably summarises it the best: https://mosfet-regulator.com/79_how-does-a-mosfet-regulator-work.html. In short a MOSFET is more efficient than an SCR, wasting less power as heat.
