Scooter forum use comparison
« on: August 22, 2019, 12:14:27 PM »
Looked at people on forums this morning.
Vespa - 143
Honda - 11
Kymco - 33

Vespa has a very large worldwide following. Consequently things get asked and answered there quickly.
Nevertheless, I still see plenty examples of "reading without comprehension". Which can be a real problem when discussing mechanical issues!

How 'bout writing without comprehension or punctuation or capitolization or taking a breath?

I think I understand the Vespa thing as brand loyalty and enthusiasm but not enough to go there. Adventure rider is a huge, world forum that features lotsa pictures of epic rides, the essence of two wheels (absent of 50 cc). Plenty of tech for BMW/KTM.

I Like this one because of brand loyalty, enthusiasm, mutual help and tech.

Oh man, Adventure Biking does my head in. It's elitist beyond all reason or belief. I still frequent this forum because the ethos is right, and that's really not how you lot come across!

I had a big think about it recently, actually, and particularly the migration for technical help from forums to Facebook has caused me great concern, as help posts with detailed responses get lost quickly and are gone forever. Forums are a vastly superior method of archiving information that will probably still be available in 10 years time, or maybe even longer.

Hence I am still on forums :)

There's a fantastic forum for the Honda C90 supercub (passport) that I visit a lot in the UK as well.

Although I am on Facebook, I consider forums way better.  IMO, the best forum out there, by a wide margin, is Adventure rider.  There is a very active scooter section.  I just organized a scooter ride on that forum and ended up with 10 riders (one on a motorcycle) from Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida and South Carolina.  We rode mountain roads in North Carolina for 3 days and had a blast.  If I could only be on one forum ADV would be it.

I have met hundreds of people that are on ADV.  People from all over the world, not just this country.  Some of the ride reports are unbelievable.

Luckily, We can be one as many forums as we want.  I'm also on Motorcycle Alabama, maxiscoots as well as this one.  If you want technical info on a specific Kymco, this is the best place to go although there is much more info on the new Like150i on ADV.

Stunning picture, klav! I do believe that manners are more genteel here and I agree with Viper about being able here to find the tech stuff.

Yes, it can get pretty nasty on some parts of ADV but it's easy enough to avoid.  The people in Battle Scooters are pretty civil and very friendly.

If you want a good example of this (plus a fair amount of foul language) try mopedarmy.com.  There is a lot of good information on that forum but there's a price to be paid for it.

The red one is a Yamaha Majesty.  Then in order, Vespa 250GTS, Honda Silverwing, 2 Yamaha Xmax's and leading the way a Kymco Like 150i.  Not in the picture but along for the ride was a Buddy125, Ninja 250, and Burgman 650.
