Yeah, ride wherever I want in the lane IF slow enough to spot & dodge the poor creatures in my headlight -- or a bit more speed and stay in a tire lane.
Things can get ugly if I don't.....
(not that I ever do --- but also better to stay in a tire lane if following too closely. Female forum member hit an Armadillo in Florida which popped out from under the car in front!)
