starting problem
« on: September 20, 2010, 12:15:13 AM »
Ok I wanted to get my 1st couple of posts out of the way before asking about this. If I try to start my scoot by the starter it will turn over at a good speed but wont start but then kick it one time and it starts right up. if I dont try to start by the starter botton and just kick it nothing. hit the start botton for just a second and 1 kick and it starts. I have checked the vacume going to the feul reg and it sends fuel when botton starting also pulled the plug and it is sparking when using the botton. its allmost like the starter doesnt turn the moter over fast enuff to start. my brothers scoot turns over about the same speed and I have used a jump box on it to make sure the battrey is full enuff no difference. any ideas would be apreciated. sure would like to use the electric starter or at least not have to do both.

About the only two things I could think of would be that while turning over with the spark plug in, it might be draining too much power turning the engine to be able to fire the ignition, or, low on compression, though that would be less likely. How many kms on your scoot?

never had this problem personaly but i sometimes use a peugeot speedfight 50 08 plate at work, when i have washed it,it refuses to start on electric start but will kick first time wtf!!!!!! i know this is not an answer to your question but i wonder if it has anything to do with your scoot being damp or even wet ???????? ::)

..you will be surprised how quickly the kick-start mechanism will spin the drive face...

..there should be enough fue in the carburetor's bowl to start your scoot, so i think we can rule out the vacuum...

..seems i've heard this before..check the 7.5 amp fuses...

..one kills everything, but the other...

..nah..that's not it...

..hmmm...

ok now I am going crazy. I changed oil today and set the valves. when I was done I hit the start button and it fired right up!!!!!!. shut it off and that was it. no more start. still kick starts. I am sure I will figuar it out when I really get in to it, its not a big deal because it does start on the first kick.  thanks

..well, it might be nothing more than a need to adjust the idle mix on your carb...thinking simple...

..kinda...but "2 turns" is a good starting point...

..according to your temps, elevation, relative humidity etc..., you may need to adjust it for best idle...
