Coldest ride so far this winter
« on: December 10, 2019, 03:34:10 PM »
High 20's with gusting winds when I headed out at 6AM.
Roads were warmed to 50's yesterday - winds dried the overnight rain....so no worries.
I did take the LIKE200i with its 14Ah battery  - not that I don't trust the puny stock 6Ah battery in the Piaggio - but, too d_mn cold to be messing around that far from home!

Steady 14mph wind and temps dropping!

(can you spot my spare key?)

Why would anyone ride on a day like this? - Weather is only going to be worse over the next several days.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Maybe not 29 here in the UK, more like mid 30's, but it's sunny so I'll take the opportunity before the next front brings rain tomorrow!

I recall riding bikes in the mid 80's (the decade, not the temperature)

Leather jacket (zero insulation), leather gloves, no fairing etc etc. Basically freezing my nuts off.

These days, great big dollop of plastic keeping the breeze at bay, triple layered jacket, heated body warmer, heated gloves.

Luxury!

Yep, Snorvey, did that too with a 55 mile round trip commute in Staffordshire back in the day.  Vivid memory of a sub-zero (c) ride home in the dark, through a blizzard on my GPz750R after I had brushed 4" of snow off the saddle.  Had to stop numerous times to thaw my hands on the engine block before arriving home chilled to the core.  My next bike (a Beemer RS1000 flat 4) came with heated grips!
