Every dealer has good and bad dealers... and every shop can have good mechanics and bad mechanics. My guess is that a Honda trained scooter mechanic could fix a Kymco as fast (or slow) as he could fix a Honda.  I am also going to guess that if a H trained tech wanted a job and K shop/dealer offered them a job... they would take it.

The GY6 engine was invented by Honda, according to all I know.. BUT.. did Kymco make them.. for Honda or for the Taiwan market? The parts book from Kymco lists parts with GY6 as part of the part number. Based on my history with my scoot and others I have dealer with, the part number s for Honda and Kymco are structured in the same way.  tThey all seem to have a 5 digit number to define what part it is 12361 is a cover (over the oil screen).. something about the engine size (GY6), or specific bike (LLJ3 = People 250) if it makes a difference.

I just looked:

Kymco P250 2005   12361-GY6-9010
Kymco A125          12361-GFY6-9010
Kymco P150          12361-GY6-9010
Honda CN150 1985 12361-KK0-000
Honda SH150 2010 12361-KGF-305 or 911

shawgb,

What was the outcome of your brake problem? I know it was several months ago, just wondering. I'm new to Kymco. I do my own brake fluid service and have for years after a Honda shop left air bubbles in my hydraulic clutch that left me stranded on a Gold Wing, two up, pulling a trailer, and going up a mountain!!

Since then, 1986, I have done my own brake/clutch fluid changes, on three touring motorcycles will no problem. The difference is I take my time, and make sure I have done a good job. Dealer techs sometimes get rushed so they can fix the next bike and don't take the time to do a slow thorough job.

For those that have soft spongy brakes that may have an air bubble (s), a simple trick to try is tie the brake lever back overnight. Sometimes the air bubble will expel itself. If that doesn't work, flush the system. That was posted on a Gold Wing site and several friends did it and it worked.

I too am finding out that good, factory trained Kymco techs are hard to find.

ya kymco are realy good scoots but try to get it fixed is a pain. my repair story is very long
and I could get nasty about it .So the best think to do is fix it my self or realy shop around
for a good tech to fix someone you thing you can trust.
