New 2011 i300 Downtown owner - Wholly a little qualified

Greeting-   My gf wanted a scooter and after looking around a bit at what was available we purchased a running 2011 i300 DT with  7000 miles. I like that is has ABS and fuel injection and nice under seat storage but not the flickering oil light while at standstill and running -  all there and ride able once I aired up the tires to recommended 30 psi.
  Being a lifelong mostly daily commuter and touring rider with some mechanical  MC skills I felt qualified to inspect even though there is no dealer support nearby for support. All went well and we purchased it for a good price.  Even came with trunk and MC saddlebags tie wrapped on.  :^)    I have down loaded both a service manual and owners manual.  The prior owners have little knowledge of it  and it sat for the 1 year they owned it with less than 100 miles of use.  The original owners put all the miles on it before I purchased it from the seller.  I was happy it was kept on a charger and I believe gas stabilizer in the tank.

All went well but test riding the little beast was another matter.  :^)

My motor riding skills are tuned to both feet and hands with clutch working together.  I felt totally out of my comfort zone and unqualified with my feet looking to brake and shift with my left hand to clutch.  LOL....   Not so easy with less to handle it seems. AND no neutral to speak of.  Roll throttle and you move.   Laughing at myself and not feeling safe I swallowed my pride and being a former MSF instructor managing my risk I promptly went and rented a UHaul MC trailer to bring the little beastie home.

Looking to learn a lot here and contribute also.   I currently own a 2012 Victory Cross Country tour and had lots of dual sports/BMW/HD's/Goldwing's in the past.  Once I get the seat cut down for her to flat foot to the ground  and all the inspections and maintenance done the customization will begin.  She is already wanting a muffler with a better sound..   :^)     I am looking forward to maintaining and customizing the little beast with the zippy 29hp...

One question - since I don't own a Kymco 300.
DOES the 2011 DT300 have ABS?
Or, are they CBS..? Combined Braking System?

Yeah, that ABS kinda threw me too...but WELCOME! You have a wonderful machine if the previous owner did not put sand in the engine sump and gearbox! Of course, I am prejudiced since I am on my second 2013 DT300i. Heads up on a couple of things: 7000 miles is NEAR being broken in! My current one finally made it at 9000 miles. That flickering oil light may be a marginal sender or bad connection. The oil pressure is so low the sender is sensing ounces/square inch. The NORMAL for these seems that start occurs on the second crank revolution. Any more revolutions before actually firing and idling means something is wrong. Somewhere below 10.5 volts while cranking is where the plug won't fire. This actually applies to all models with this type of EFI. Considering the age of the machine you may be should look at a battery replacement soon. Finally, for now, I highly recommend you minutely inspect the tires. Please consider replacements is the original Maxxis brand are still in place. Really, with your experience, all this is really kind of old hat! Would not worry about spare parts since these hardly need anything beyond oil and filters and gas and...well, you know! We even have a thread on here about how to refresh your air filter with pictures!

I'm in the Echo what was said about the tires. If you search around for my thread here, you'll see that after my first ride the original front had some kind of wicked cracking right up against the rim. It also was causing my downtown to turn in tighter on really tight turns, and the front wheel would follow grooves in the road like it was glued to them a brand new tire fixed all of that. So at least look at the dates stamped on yours and replace them if more than a few years old. Do a complete service.. engine oil, final drive oil, spark plug, check air filter. Check the belt for cracking/crazing.maybe replace the coolant and check the valves. And then ride the heck out of it!
I've had mine since the week of Thanksgiving. It took me the last six weeks to really get a feel for it, but I did a 125 mile ride last week like it was a drive around the block.  It will handle some heated clothing if the winter turns truly cold. IMHO... at $1400 , which is what I paid for mine as well, it is the most bang for your buck that you can purchase in a scooter.

  Yes of course on the tire replacement.  Inspection revealed not even one small crack on either tire but it has lots of tread still available for now -  but will replace soon.  Thanks about the sensor.  I will check the battery and chase down where the oil sensor is.  It has full clean oil in it from what I can tell.   When underway the oil light goes out from what little riding I could tell..    I assumed it was ABS since it has an ABS sensor on the front brake but then I am only assuming.  (see pic)  That is how my Victory that has ABS looks with that ring on the disk.  It is 28 degrees out and I have no garage but working from a shed only.    Looking to do all the maint from front to rear when it warms up outside.  I am near Seattle WA.  So any How to's I would be interested in being directed to.  Thanks for the welcome aboard!

I think that disc might be for the speedo or odometer . ?
2011 model does not have ABS, which is only relatively new on many Kymcos.

   You are correct.   I  looked for an ABS light on the controls and there was none.     Does anyone have a lead where to get a free download of a correct service manual?   Thanks  :^)

There was a good wiring diagram link on HERE TODAY! I see you found that thread on manuals. I will TRY to post the DT300i service manual but me, dinosaur!

That tone wheel up front is the speedo, not ABS! Thought that was unusual!

Go to Downtown 300 post, "Looking for 12 volt wire something when ignition switch open" entry from Dan Hartman. He has the pdf link to the diagram for a DT300i with no flasher wiring.  Everything else looks the same.
