Turn signals flashe to fast
« on: January 23, 2020, 06:46:26 PM »
Hi Guys,
I put some LED turn signals on the rear but because LEDs are using less power, my flasher relay think I have burned bulb and so flashes too fast. But the hazard lights are flashing at the right pace!
I need to replace the actual flasher relay by a LED flasher relay, but i have no idea where it is located on my Xtown 300i.
They are different type of flasher relay (2/3 pins) and i don't know which one is on the scooter.
Can somebody help me out?

Save yourself some trouble and return to standard spec bulbs---I have XTown 300i and find OEM bulbs just fine.

This is a very common problem when using LEDs in turn signals.
Some use an electrical adapter.  Some toss 'em and return to standard bulbs - their low wattage does nothing to stress the bikes electrical system.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I've never needed to replace the amber indicator flasher globes on my DT300i over 80,000 km. The filament globes just work very well.

If you want to save power I could recommend LED headlight globes.

I can't find a service manual online and the owners manual doesn't show the flasher location. You might have to turn it on and track it down by sound. I'd guess up front behind the cluster somewhere. You should be able to use the two wire flasher even if it has a three wire. The world wire is power in and out to the switch. The three wire has a extra pin for ground. Something like this from Super Bright LEDs. https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/flashers-load-resistors/electronic-led-flasher-relays-for-motorcycle/787/842/

I only use LED bulbs if they are as bright or brighter than the standard bulbs. Besides consuming less power LEDs turn on/off in a fraction of the time of a incandescent bulb which means your brake lights turn on faster and you get noticed sooner. I have converted several of my bikes and added additional lighting in replacing all the DOT reflectors with dual function running/turn or running/brake lights. Additional lighting means being seen. https://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=24319.0

If the Xtown is wired anything like the DT350i, then the flasher relay is located behind the front windshield cover and the hazard lights are controlled by a solid-state module near the battery.

The flasher relay is round with 3 small pins. You can physically feel the clicking of the flasher relay when activated, making it easy to locate.

My flasher (~84 blinks/sec) is behind the front plastic, below the headlight.  It's a small circular unit, with 3 prongs. There's adjustable motorcycle flashers for sale on eBay for less than $10.  This looks like an easy fix.
