I had a dealer inspect my belt at about 17,500 miles and it is in perfect (as in new condition)? Do the Kymco belts last this long? The only thing I can think of is that maybe the original owner replaced the belt just before selling the bike with 7,250 miles on it? I didn't look, but maybe he put a kevlar belt on it? I don't understand as I have put over 10,000 miles on the bike, and the belt is like new? I am at a loss here. I thought the belt would be in shred's. How can the belt be perfect after 10,000 miles? Could it be do to the fact that I only run hi-way speeds 98% of the time. STRANGE? :o

17,500 miles? Most of my buddies here replaced there belts at 15tkms- 17tkms that's kilometers. Mine showed some cracks at 10tkms so i replaced it with kevlar belt.

The belt may "look" new, but there must be settled dust from abrasive friction in the variomatic. It just can't be in perfect new condition after 17500 miles.
What's the width of the belt? It's age (flexibility)?

But in fact, the original Xciting 500 belt lasts quite long. Mine was still savely in it's specified tolerance after 20tkm, but the dealer already told me, it might be out at 25tkm.

I changed my  Kymco belt at 30000klm(18600m) because I was itching to try the Kevlar one i had bought but the OEM belt looked really good, no delamination, cracks  or any obvious signs of being tired. might have been a bit thinner  over the top of the wedge but not a great deal different from the one I replaced it with..I have kept it as a spare and would re-use it if the Kevler one bites the dust

It's the same width as new? It's almost as if someone snuk into my car port and changed the belt the day before I went to the dealer? :-*

With regard to keeping a used belt for spare, does anyone know if changing the running direction of the belt will do any harm to the belt?

I don't think the belt has a direction it should run in, so unless it has arrows pointing for the direction it should run (like a tire does), it should make no dif? As to my belt, it has no cracks, it shines like new, so the original owner must have put a kevlar on it? He must have done so not long before selling it? The car dealer I bought it from also buy's and sells harleys, so he may have traded it in on a harley, and this is how they got the scoot? :-*

I was just thinking that once it has been in service it should not be turned, like a timing belt or a radial tyre.
