Top Selling Scooters in Italy
« on: February 14, 2020, 12:10:04 PM »
Italina sales figures for the period Jan > May, 2019.
I was surprised to see that 8 of the top 12 scooters were 300CC or more! (didn't think the Italians could afford those expensive scooters!)
As always - big wheel scooters are the choice when riding on rough streets - while (Italian assembled) Hondas continues to lead the market!

Two quick impressions:
1. I thought Vespa would rule the list (silly me)
2. Glad to see Kymco in the mix
2018 Kymco Like 200i (matte black)

Pretty much mirrors my observations while visiting Italy a couple of years ago.  I really expected to see many Vespas, but not the case.  Big wheel scooters rule there.

One of our tour guides showed me his Burgman.  Over 100,000 km on the clock.

I made the comment in another post that small wheeled scooters like the Vespa are not popular in the big cities in Italy. I lived in Rome for 8 years and I drove, for the most part(Except for the Aprilia), large wheeled scooters because of the cobblestone streets. Made sense that the Honda was at the top of the pack...had a Honda SH-150 myself before I came back to the US.

Looks like it would Suck to be a BMW dealer in Italy.  I'm wondering if the poor showing is due to price?
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

Looks like 8390 for total Kymco sales in Italy.  Wonder how it compares to US sales?

Kind of sounds like Kymco is the Rodney Dangerfield of scooters. I know I avoided Kymco for years thinking they were just another cheap Chinese scooter. It wasn't until I did some research that my opinion changed.

After vivisecting my mega brand cycle dealer this morning, I was reminded that scooter owners are the Rod Dangerfield of riders in this country.
The Llama riding gang will probably overtake us early next year.
