Kymco scooter resale value ?
« on: May 03, 2020, 11:52:03 PM »
So what have you seen as far as Kymco resale value ? Currently we are facing a low consumer confidence through out the world with the conovirous economic problems .
I would guess that the resale value is better than any of the Japanese / Euro bikes because they cost less new . I was watching the BMW C650 2016 and up models .
Used 16 are going for around $6000. new they are almost $11500. so in 4 years they depreciate more than the most expensive Kymco .
So what do you think your scooter will be worth and feel good because it should be a good % less than the competitions .

Personally,  I would pay a good bit more for a used Honda than a used Kymco.
I love my LIKE200iLX, but last year saw fairly new left-overs priced as  low as @60% of what I paid 7 yrs ago.
Have also read of some remarkably low prices scored by members for new  300 and 400cc Kymcos.
If new can't hold near their MSR prices in some USA markets - what then of the used?
I do feel you get a lot for your $ in a Kymco....but they're not Hondas, and in the USA never will have the desirability of a Honda.

I don't think so much in terms of my scooter as having 'Kymco' type resale...it's older and I view it more as having 150cc + type resale value.

It was purchased for $1300 in 2015 (2010 People S200) and I'd like to think I could always get $700 or $800 out of it. Still has low miles, 2600, and is in great shape.

When looking at Craigslist it is rare to ever see 150cc scooters priced at less than even 8 or $900. 50cc scoots tend to bottom out around $300 or $400 for older, beat up ones.

So I'd like to think the Kymco would bring a little bit more money than the no name Chinese scoots sold at used car lots but nowhere near as much as a similar vintage Honda.

Since I buy my scooters/motorcycles to ride them----I look at it differently.  I buy only new, my Kymco XTown 300I is my 11th maxi-scooter since 1990, when I am done with it I expect my loss to be less than other makes because of low purchase price.   At 10,000 miles my Kymco is working out fine.

X-T300 lists at $4495, real world out the door will be @ $5500+/-.
Burgmans have always been silly price..
I once asked my young salesman, "What's that Burgman 650 going for - around $12,000?"
He said, "No!....but let me go check."
He came back shaking his head in wonder...."Holy crap!"
Best bet is new left-over Burgs, 2 to 3 yrs old, after an internet search from distant dealers. They knocked $3,000 off my 400 and delivered it 97 miles to my driveway. I even had choice of two colors. The whole deal was by email and one phone call.

I'm with John on this one! Not interested in resale just being able to ride until the wheels fall off if it is not stolen right after break-in!

Have to agree with John and Crossbolt that didn't purchase for resale. I've bought several Kymco's used for a bargin price. If I have friends that ride visit I can provide a used Kymco and not worry about monetary loss if damaged. I use the scooters more for recreation then transportation.

My used scooters would probably  bring what I paid for them if not more so resell would be excellent.

I have never bought a vehicle for resell. I purchase a vehicle to fill a need, (or perceived need).
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

Bingo John, Crossbolt, and Kansas.

I buy 'em barely used and low priced to ride them. Same with cars... My last three cars went over 10 years and 225,000 miles.  Resale is not a consideration.. but since the most I have paid for a scooter is $1400 (the Downtown), that's the most I could lose...
