There are several web sites that profile what's left of 66. Like was said earlier the road has been decommissioned but several sections that go through goast towns remain. My favorite web site profiled the road and was interactive.  It told you as you scrolled through each section the history of the towns it passed through complete with pictures. They recommended you bypass the section through St Louis as being too dangerous.  If I can find it will post the info for what it's called been  a few years.

Remembered one story about a cocktail club that had a sign out front with a neon cocktail, when the cherry was lit in the cocktail the ladies were available for (entertainment).

Route 66 was removed from the national highway register as its entirety had been replaced by interstate highway sections by 1985. I think there are some historical marked segments though.
According to the Web site How much of route 66 is drivable they state 85%. Most of route 40 was built as new road bypassing small towns.

The Lincoln highway (now hwy 30)  predates route 66.  The section through Kansas had all the telephone poles painted white to mark the way according to historical data.

I have found Wikipedia to be useful and usually correct. I know some section are dirt road now and others in very poor conditions.   I have not drove it so I have to take the word of the Internet  and we all know how reliable that can be. I know a lot of states embrace route 66 for the tourism money it brings in.

I remember 45 years ago, taking my CB125S on I-89 in VT & NH for about 50 miles, I was lucky to maintain 40 going up some of the hills, but traffic was different. Big trucks weren't 1000 hp, so they were going slow up the hills too. and it was also during the national 55mph days, only thing that went fast were grayhound busses

I would never, ever consider that same ride today, on my K-pipe, for all practical purposes, an identical bike
