Someone tried to steel my People 150 the other night. Luckily, it looks like they broke their drill bit and gave up.

I've managed to take off the ignition core from the front side, and I'm trying to put in a new one. The core has a 5-wire plug but my new cheap plug has 4 wires. I can't seem to find a wiring diagram that shows what wires are connected when ON and OFF.

I connected the 2 greens together, which are ground. I connected the red and black wire. When I start the engine I hear to starter moving but there's no spark, as if the kill switch were on. The 5th wire is a black with white stripe. I'm thinking if I connect that to either the ground or power circuits, it will allow for spark?

I'm not terribly excited about electrical work. I always feel I'm on the verve of a good shock or explosion.  ;D

OK, it's a toughie as every bike is wired differently, but you say there's two grounds?

My suspicious is red (live feed) to black (ignition live)

The second part is harder. Some bikes use black/white to green to KILL the engine, rather than let it start. As you've ascertained the engine won't run when the black/white isn't grounded, I'd try grounding the black/white (which I strongly suspect goes to a pin on the CDI, via the side stand switch if you have one) and give that a whirl.

I would be very wary about putting the black/white to power - you could do some damage :S

Color wiring diagram first priority! Saving that, a properly labeled black on white diagram. Do not trust the black and white diagram in the service manuals because some are incorrect! I don't know which ones! But one recently here the spark coil wiring was incorrect.

The Downtown 300i service manual has the incorrect wiring shown for the spark coil?

This ignition wiring sounds very much like my beater Agility 50 wiring.  An Agility 50 diagram might be useful.  On mine, the OEM switch had a PARK position.  The replacement switch did not.  This might account for the fewer wires.

I know doing it correctly could be a lot cheaper then replacing damaged parts. Find a wiring diagram and go from there.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

I agree with that. A plug and play ignition lock could save potential electrical damage by trial and error. Not that it would have to be genuine, just make sure it comes with a key!
