How to change the oil on a X-Town?

Does anyone know how difficult it is to change the oil and filter on a 2018 XTown 300?

have a dealership that's about 40 miles away that wants to charge close to $50, and that's just waaay expensive IMO

With dealer 40 miles distant - it is time for you to obtain a couple of inexpensive tools and a service manual for your scooter.
Regarding an engine oil and filter change - most owner's manuals walk you through this procedure, with illustrations.
Get down next to your scooter, using manual locate filter and drain plug.
So, what do you think....can you do this?
If you're really uncomfortable doing this simplest of all scooter servicing - then make an appointment with your dealer.
Most dealers charge @$100 an hour for labor....oil plus filter and labor for $50 does not seem unreasonable for a scooter or motorcycle.
Seem more expensive than a car oil change --- sure it is. There are dozens of oil change places in even a small town. Unless you are in the Philippines or Vietnam. .......your scooter dealer has very little competition for price setting.

Since when does XTown have oil filter?  my 2019 has none---oil change requires 17mm wrench (box better for me), drain bolt on left-----one right side it requires 17 mm to check screen---socket works better. I, after initial check plan to check screen every 10,000 miles.

Long engine life on XTown---with its one quart crankcase capacity---change oil often!  When just doing local trips, I change every 1,000 miles---long trips where lots of miles are put on in a week or two, I tend to let it run longer.


For me, the last 500,000 2 wheel miles---WalMart house brand 10-40 has worked fine.  Cheap/available just about everywhere in US.


My 2019 now has 7500 plus miles.

I called my dealership and asked them and they told me the OIL Filter was $8.95 and I have tried to look up to see where I can buy one myself and cant find a oil filter to buy

If your saying there isn't one, then that is awesome. I can then change it by myself like I use too.

He was probably referring to that screen thing. ( my mistake on the filter. Many 300s have some kind of filter, internal or spin-on. Guess Kymco deleted that on this economically priced 300)

Yeas! The DT, People 300i and the Yager all have a tiny cartridge filter to really filter the oil. It is a nice, serious touch.

Thank you John.  No picture of engine oil drain bolt in my XT300 owners manual (or on t'internet), but your information above let me locate it immediately, so grateful appreciation from a fellow XT owner!

Just changed the oil and just before refitting the drain plug a thought occurred. Do any of you switch to the prop stand to drain the last bit of old oil out?

I usually raise both stands and hike it as far over as I can. May not be as easy on the heavier downtown and doesn't get much more out. Getting the engine hot and then letting it drain overnight seems to have a more pronounced effect.

When changing oil I just drain  and make sure screen is clean and have a glass of tea go back and put the drain plug in and fill with T-6 synthetic.  No more dirty oil then  left in engine isn't a issue.  I don't let my oil get that contaminated.
