Trip
« on: July 09, 2020, 06:41:12 PM »
When this Virus thing calms down....or when I am tired of sitting around-----the trip I proposed to CanadianRockies, (no takers) I have changed destination since easier to Pikes Peak (last trip up there about 30 years ago on Yamaha SR500, think road is paved all the way now and hope there are no scooter restrictions as there are on Mt. Washington in East.....because idiot scooter riders-- do not know how to restrict/save brakes, use available engine braking----I did get up and down on Helix, after telling my job as Safety Manager/MSF Instructors card/BSc Safety degree----Helix went up and down just fine)

I think nice ride across Kansas on US 50--getting from Chattanooga for me will require some Freeway.  Probably camp/fast food, Motel 6 in really crappy weather.

My Xtown 300i is a little over  10,000 miles, plan on running drive belt to 15,000 as I have done on other make scooters in past (Carry OEM new belt in case and right tools to change) Rear tire, City Grip, has about 5,000 miles left---total round trip for me should be around 3,000miles for me.  Start out with fresh oil change----take plenty of foul weather gear (Aerostich Darien pants and jacket, Wolverine water proof boots, plenty of gloves including Aero overmitts for rain.....and as it can get cold feather jacket liner! Normal day in summer, $40mesh yellow jacket.)  paper maps/cell phone/tow insurance. Tire repair kit and manual pump.

Nice pace as I am old fart----any takers?  50cc too small/no trailer bikers

I applaud your plan! I offer moral support as I am on the Left Coast.
I too am planning trips.
Share pictures for sure.

If I didn't have so much going on I might have done a partial leg of the trip. If I could make a suggestion highway 56 to 96 isn't a bad road with very little truck traffic compared to highway 50. I use to take that road all the time to where 96 ends at silvercliffe / Westcliff.  I use to go out to Salida CO all the time. The motel 8 there was owned by a fellow rider don't know if it still is.  I don't know when your planning your trip but if I'm around I could provide you lunch.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

Rode Pike's Peak on  a Honda XL500  many years ago.  They waved me though the brake check on the way down.

Rode Pikes peak a long time ago before it was paved.  Great ride.  I was waved through the brake check as well.  I was on a R1100GS.
