Build quality of the Chinese built Agility's
« on: August 20, 2020, 02:37:01 PM »
A neighbor of mine in Ely seen my orange Kymco and is thinking about a smaller scooter for around town errands. Just wondering how the Agility compares to the Taiwanese built units?
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

My Chinese Agilty is very good quality. Current km reading is about 24500 km. Engine still starts instantly and purrs like new.
I only had to replace the CDI (9300 km) and the Voltage Regulator (can’t remember at what km).
I also replaced wheelbearings, maybe a bit too soon.
Also experienceda headlight problem, but fixed it myself.
Easy to do self-maintenance.

In short - very good quality and brilliant for commuting around town. Average fuel consumption varies between 35 - 37 km/liter.

I take it scooter fan  that the wheelbearing was preventive maintenance?  What was the issue with the headlight? What do you think led to the cdi and regulator failure?

Wheelbearings - At the time I was not sure where a strange humming noise was coming from. Only possibility I could think of was the wheelbearings. New bearings did not make a difference though. The noise was coming and going and enventually disappeared when the clutch was replaced due to worn clutch pads. I think the noise was coming from the needle- or ball bearing at the clutch.

Headlights did not come on. I bought the scooter 2nd hand and the headlights did not work right from the beginning. I started trying to find out what the problem was but due to a lack of time I just bypassed the existing systym with relays and a toggle switch.

CDI and voltage Regulator. Maybe  a quality problem. It does not really bother me. I managed to find dirt cheap Chinese replacement components. I keep an extra Chinese CDI, and extra voltage Regulator in stock just in case it’s needed.

Nothing serious - I still think my Agility is top quality.

Our first generation LIKE's (163 and 50cc versions) are assembled in China.
In the 10 year production span of this model we had one recall on the 2018 models (fuel line clip up at the tank) and a tiny % developed a throttle position sensor issue on the 2012/2013 models.

Other than tires - my 2012 LIKE200iLX has not needed any but CVT consumables (belt, rollers, clutch)
Still running the same brake pads, haven't even burnt out a bulb.
Steering remains tight, shocks & panels good, etc. Even the KYMCO accessory crash bar set was very good quality and still looks new.

Sure - we all pulled off the "Made In China" sticker when we got it home....which seems kind of silly now, after 8 years of riding.

Stig

I put these crash bars on soonest - (still have paper license) - just in case - as a returning rider after 40 yrs ;)
Fortunately haven't need them yet!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Called on a used 2013 50cc Kymco. Found out the listing was wrong it was a tatao and not a Kymco.

I am not surprised.  Some of these same folks refer to scooters as mopeds.

My first clue was they spelled scooter (skooter). Was in good shape only 1200 miles.   The state of Kansas refers to scooters as motorcycles.  To the state a scooter can't have over 3.5 hp or go over 30mph.
