Digital Speedo not working
« on: September 07, 2024, 03:17:09 PM »
I purchased a new Kymco DTX 125 yesterday, as I was riding it home yesterday afternoon I noticed that the speedo wasn't working, and the odometer was still at 2km. I couldn't return to the garage as they were closing when I picked the bike up. I am going back with it Monday, what excuses can I expect in what is wrong and how easy to fix. Not happy at all.

brand new scooter or 'new to you' scooter? Makes a difference. You mention the odo at 2K so I'm assuming a used scooter? If you bought it from a business and the odometer isn't working, and you signed an odometer disclosure statement then that's a legal problem as the miles aren't accurate (assuming that's what was signed, as opposed to 'miles unknown')

If you had it in the shop for repair and it's not working, again, that's a different issue.

Not sure about the newer scoots but the older ones had a cable drive speedo and odo run off the front wheel. I would start by making sure the cable is connected to both the wheel and up into the speedo head unit. My vintage Helix has had the speedometer drive cable come loose from the speedo head and fall out...which makes the speedo inop. I added thread locker and tightened it up..no more issues.

Give us clear detail and the group here should be able to help.

Hawk, I guess he wrote two kilometers, so I assume this scooter is out of the box.

@Willie5094, welcome here!
Mondays you should tell them the issue and let them check up on your new scoot.
Might be a cable off from transport or a sensor bolt loose, etc.....

Serious dealership does not need to use any excuses, they just see your scoot, repair or adjust it and a happy client is back again.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

Good eye, Ruffus! 2 is very different than 2,000! New scoot? Take it back to the dealer!

As promised here is my update, so took bike to dealers (family owned) and left with them, got a message this morning to say all sorted. Apparently it was a software issue that took 15 mins to sort, he said in all the years selling Kymco that this has never happened.
