A sad business....
« on: October 06, 2020, 02:28:09 PM »
The other night while riding my LIKE200i (with its 35W headlight) I saw a small dark 'ball' on that white fog stripe on the R side of the road.
As usual, an hour before sunrise, I was riding @28MPH (actual).
At the last possible moment that little 'ball' straightened up into a squirrel.
I rolled to my left, well away from him and started braking - but by darned if that little rascal didn't decide to bolt full speed straight across the lane before I could do anything else.
I felt my tire run over him.
I've been riding off and on since the late 60's - but that is the first time I've hit something - and it felt lousy.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

My daughter had something similar happen to her on the way into work the other week Stig.  Called me up from the side of the road distraught that she had hit a kamikaze squirrel.  Took some talking down as, like the rest of us, she loves all critters (except spiders!), but if you're driving, especially at dawn & dusk, sooner or later you're gonna hit something.  Just be thankful it wasn't something big and hard!

Sorry for your loss all the same.
Regards & ride safe,
Neil

Isn't it strange that they always bolt TOWARD the oncoming danger.  :P
