Motor temperature gauge KOSO
« on: January 21, 2021, 07:33:48 PM »
Again plenty of time and spareparts ....
Beeing interested in my Like's motor temperature, l thought it to be a good idea to install a digital gauge similar to my voltmeter.
KOSO was the company which was highly praised for its items, so that one l got.
This set comes with
-digital display
-pre installed are a two-line power cable of appr. 90 cm of lenght
-pre installed sensor on a appr. 110 cm cable.

But where to put it without drilling and tapping a hole into my motors block.
Since l didn't want to cut and extend the sensors cable  and caused by its limited lenght, was for me the valvecover the place to mount.

Our Likes have an protruding part on their valvecover already with an existing hole of 8mm in diameter.
This hole was tapped to a tread of 10mm and ready to house my sensor.

Voltage came from the glove compartements 12V socket...
I would rather have mounted this display on my handlbar like my voltmeter, but for reasons
a) limited lenght of sensor cable and
b) movement and possible demage of this little bit rigid cable by turning the handlbar
it came down onto the knee fairing.

Done this l measured the Likes oil-temperature after a 20 minute test-ride directely through the oil-dipstick hole with a digital thermometer.
Remember, this sensor is sitting on/in the Likes valvecover. There it measures (pls see pics) 94°C. Oil-temperature realistically was 84°C.
So that means l have to take off appr. 10°C from my KOSO reading to know how hot my oil is running.
Right now with outside temperatures of around 10°C it has a reading of 70-80°C during riding.
Then of course, switched off, it boils up to 90 and in summer even higher.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus
