Access battery on UXV 450i
« on: January 23, 2021, 03:33:09 AM »
I need to charge the battery on my 2017 UXV 450i. I was told it is under the seat but I can’t locate it. Does anyone have any directions or pictures they can send to me on how do find it and charge it?
Thanks,
Rob

Remove seat and under drivers side is a flat lid held in place by 4 or 5 bolts. Remove bolts and lift lid and there is your battery and solenoid, just at the back of the battery box is a small rectangle that contains the fuses.  Use a charger of 2 amps or less and connect jump leads to correct + and -  posts.
In the cold I keep a trickle charger/maintainer connected all the time.  You should consider getting a service manual for your machine, as it will help answer all your questions

Yes, should have mentioned that as I have a pigtail on mine, big timesaver!!
I also changed the phillips head screws over to a bolt with a wingnut head, so if an emergency should happen, I wont need to find a screw driver. Can remove the wingnut bolts 2 at a time with my fingers, hopefully I will never have that emergency!!

Thank you for your suggestions. I searched under the seat and the battery was not there. After exploring I found it under the hood. I now have it charging to see if it will take a charge.

speaking of pigtails fron the battery...

what is the output of the 450i's charging system, led lights, & electronics are one thing, what about heated gear, my jacket liner is 90w, gloves another 35w,  on my motorcycle (V-strom 1000) I am right on the edge of output, 400w alternator, but it takes 250w just to run lights, fuel pump, etc.

Never saw a 450i with the battery under the hood, did a previous owner alter the original placement?  All I can tell you is your battery needs to be 12.6 vdc or above to be full charged. If it drops below 12.0 vdc the battery will be damaged, whether it comes back is a guess.  I have an led light bar and always run my gps when trail riding and have headlamps on at all times.  Never had a charging issue except for a winter a couple years back. Extreme cold and after plowing for 2 hrs the winch was taking its toll on the batteries charge. I have been lucky as my battery is original, a sealed agm battery is what came in it.....

Yep....I check my output every so often with my handheld vom, havent had any issues but do check the output at least 2x per year, when I get ready for winter then again when it gets ready for summer trail riding. I also clean terminals and check electrical connections. It pays and prevents trail break downs.
