What's cooking, or - are you just a pretty face?
« on: March 03, 2021, 12:06:40 AM »
Some of us have been confined to the ranch more than usual this past year.
Have any of you done anything to enhance your cooking skills during full or partial confinement?

I've been cooking since my days as Hippie Chef the summer of '67 in 'Frisco.
With the Mrs. still fully employed - and me - uh, ah, not.....I've been trying to do my bit for the team....in the kitchen most days.

Today I talked my daughter through the steps and we prepared this 9lb Lasagna, with a side dish of steamed asparagus. And your choice of coffee, water or ...milk I guess. The family loves this - and if I ever take a flyer off the scooter someone is going to have to step in and continue this dish.

For dessert - Reese's p-butter cups for dessert, with coffee.

Cooks or bakers out there?
Stig

PS: I looked up asparagus cooking times on my phone - used that old felons' (M. Stewart) instructions : "7 mins for thick stalks" and they came out perfect!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Snap. My missus still working so it’s me in the galley most days. Kinda enjoy it too. My last Bolognese was considered my best yet! Also managed a passable kedgeree last week. Daughter even claims my roast potatoes are better than Mum’s!

Interestingly, you'll see from the attached pic that ebc colour options are different here in the UK!

Nice. But, I don't think "portion control " is necessary with asparagus - is it?
Reminds me of the time we went to dinner at a very upscale restaurant. I had the steak....which was overlaid with one stalk of asparagus. Wife asked why I was looking about on the floor after the waiter departed.
"Thought maybe the rest of 'em rolled off, somewhere."
It's not caviar, for pete's sake!
How long do you steam the purple band variety?
