Derestricting 2021 Kymco MXU 150
« on: March 01, 2021, 12:22:41 AM »
Hey Guys,

Just picked up a new 150 for my girlfriend. She’s a small, petite beginner rider (5’2 105 lbs) and I thought the 150 would be enough. Now I know it’s in the break in period but it only reaches a top speed of 30mph with me on it (I’m 185 lbs). I already removed the collar in the cvt and pulled the throttle limiter screw all the way out.

Is there anything else I need to do? Will it get faster after the break in? I’ve been reading that most mxu150’s can hit a top speed of 40-42 mph.

Let me know, thanks.

I also changed out the carb for a Mikuni VM26 30mm carb with an air filter cone and it seems to have more pickup but took it out after and could still only hit 30mph. Should’ve went for the 270 😔

You've done what I would have recommended already by removing the spacer washers. The only thing left to do is change the shaft on that variator were you removed the washers. You didn't say what year your 150 is so assuming that New means 2020 or so,  The shaft currently in the machine is : 22102-KKC3-900
The shaft from an older model which were not restricted as much, the part number is: 22105-KHD4-E00. You may want to order this one. It may help and give you a few more mph. But, you are limited due to the overall gearing on the bike.
Good Luck
