Unseasonable Temps in the UK

Took a leaf out of Stig's book and got today's riding done before it gets too hot. 

We've had a Met Office warning of dangerous heat for the next couple of days with the mercury registering 30-33c (85-92f) which, although no worse than we used to get in the summer at our Malta home, it just seems so much worse here in Britain.  Maybe it's the humidity and where we are, being 100 miles from the coast, there's not a breath of air.  So, off to the shop early doors for some essential supplies and made sure to park in the shade.  Still had to peel my kit off on returning home.  Not complaining though, rain is forecast next week

@Neil, good to hear you guys at the Island get some sun too. Here in Italy fortunately we have this temps from end of April till mid September. Means light gear, italian style.

Back before we committed to ATGATT the summer swelter of the hot, humid deep south was perfect for riding in shorts and T-shirt. These days, once the armored suit is donned, one must be moving or one boils! I can no longer ride anywhere without the helmet, armored suit, proper gloves and shoes without feeling naked!

We here in the "land of cotton" have had strings of days over 90°F and days of pouring rain.

My trick to riding in the heat is to go fast and ......

Skip the trousers....


....and the jacket....


or just go naked

Karl, Me too, ATGATT here as well, makes for a sweaty ride!

Ruffus, fortunately my jacket has a removable liner and a back mesh vent which can be opened up.  Big problems is getting tight-fitting gloves off when your hands have sweated...

Absolutely Neil, as you know I'm not to far away and the heat is really unusual. Still, I'm a Prison Officer and off for a few days luckily, the heat really brings the worst out in some folk!! Even worse, it's too hot to ride the Peak District in all the gear, let's hope it gets a little cooler!! ( I know, us Brits love to moan about the weather!😂)

When it's cooled down, let me know when you have a day off and you can show me your favourite Peak District roads - leaving out the infamous Cat n Fiddle eh?  Too many head cases & cameras on there these days.

I was very disappointed not to see high winds and horizontal rain!

I quickly found out how hot it gets inside my gear once the summer temps arrived. Although I really like my HWK riding jacket that I purchased when I got my scooter, I realized it was just going to be too hot for summertime riding, even with the air vents all open.

So, I purchased a second riding jacket for the summer. This one is made from a mesh material that allows for good airflow all over. Makes a big difference on these hot and humid days, and I figure between the two of them, I have things covered from the hottest days of summer to the cooler days of fall, as the original jacket also has a zip-in liner when it gets cold enough to need a bit more insulation.

I'm not going to complain too much about the heat, though. I know I will be really sad when it finally gets cold enough to have to put the scoot away for the season...

Yep, warm weather, hot weather, cool weather and cold weather all need their own jackets! If PA is like Iowa you can probably ride well into December and pick it up again in March. The 3 months off gives you time to do additional maintenance on the scoot and to plan for the upcoming riding season.
