Grand Dink 150 Charging light (met in box) permanentely on?
« on: September 01, 2021, 04:58:45 PM »
Dear tribe wisers,
got one more astonishing feature on my brave Grand Dink 150, MY 2003.
Since a couple of days the handy charging light (pls. see pics) illuminates permanentely my dashboard.
Goes not off for a second during driving.

History to that:
As a technician I cannot stand if any technical item on my vehicles does not work as supposed to.
So, when I bought this GD month ago, it was pretty negelected but driveable.

This charging socket in my met-in box was disconnected, for battery matters I thought wrongly.
Cleaned this socket up, connected and all of a sudden this above mentioned light went on and never disappeared.
Local KYMCO prof says, "aha this charging light is on, just take off your handy again",
okay, I say, I disconnected  already this plug.
Profi says, "never had such a case" and leaves.
Any ideas how to solve this mystery?
A good, readable wiring diagram would be nice too, if someone has.🤗
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

I texted your wife.
She knows how such things trouble your brain - so, she's going to go out tonight, while you're watching Dancing With Stars, and put some nice silver/grey nail polish over that red light - so, tomorrow you will think it has 'fixed' itself (as do many electrical gremlins)

So, just enjoy your TV time - this has been taken care of .....
You're welcome.

The picture does not show the met in light on, is it just the charging light?

@Stig, that's a treat, was wondering why she was in such a jolly mood, ....txs so much😅
@Kk, yes, only the charging light is on, met-in light (in the box) is not existant.
I tried there, at the male part of this two pole connector, which shoes12.67 Volts on it, to connect this charging socket, to no avail. Red light stays on all time. No fuse gone, checked/renewd all.

Just to clarify is it the phone light connected or no charging of the battery light? If it's no charging you could check the output voltage while running and non- running.

@Kk, txs, yes it's definitely the phone charging light/reminder. GD 150 does not have a battery charging light.
Checked charging voltage while running motor, V14.5
No change on voltage on this socket (if connected) either running /not running.
What came up now is, output of V6.95 on this socket. Should be in my opinion V12+ ( battery voltage).
I'm thinking in direction that, someone fooled around with this socked somehow, harmed this little ECU in a way or other, saw this light on, disconnected the socked and by chance had this red light off. Now by another happenstance it lit up again when I reinstalled the socket. Just my guess.
I will track it somehow, have to take off frontparts to see all relais and cabling.

So the light is on with the socket disconnected?  Or only when it's connected?  Definitely something wrong with only 6.95 V at the socket. Just curious does the socket get warm when connected?

Doubt any problem with ECU since everything else the ECU commands seems to be working.

This is one of these "think about it" things that drive us all insane! But just "think about" how that ECU or whatever "knows" that socket has something plugged into it. My guess is it detects a current flow. So my guess on this is the + wire is suffering a bare spot somewhere.

First, pull the fuse for that socket. Light out? Yes/no
Yes: the + wire ground is between the fuse and socket.
No:   the ground is between the battery and fuse box (unlikely).

Second (may have been covered), with fuse in, disconnect socket. Light out? Yes/no
Yes: problem in socket.
No:  go back to "first."

@Kk, yes, even disconnected or completely taken out the socket is "light on". Socket warming up I could not feel.
@CROSSBOLT, yes, fuse out/light out, I'm inclined to your theory, bare spot in + somewhere between fuse and socket/connector. It's the main fuse with 30 A which has this circuit in it. Has to be something like that. Will find it.

BUT, since there is such a nice sailing weather, I might postpone my search for a few days.....

Watch for a FEDEX drone with your package.
Let's take care of that light.....

@Stig txs  alot,  hope this drone will not miss dropping zone, for our boat is pretty small a target.😅
