SSR (Sorts Scooter Related) Generator
« on: August 30, 2021, 07:25:25 PM »
This 3500 watt generator has not been started in two years, same fuel as two years ago with Sta-bil in it, was run dry til it quit and parked. We have possibly heavy weather approaching from Ida so I broke out the generator from under two tarps in the barn.

Fuel tap on, verified fuel in tank, switch off, choke on, two pulls on the rope to prime, switch on, starts on first pull! Choke off, rpm up to 3600, normal sounds. Yes, I did check the oil first!

Point being, Sta-bil works (we all knew that!) and run dry before store (we knew that, too!) works like a CHAMP!

I agree with you  except it works so well that 0-E fuel with Sta-BIL will last for two years in the tank. I exercise my onan generator in the RV every 3 months on the same fuel for a couple of years.

I hope you don't get hammered to hard by Ida it sounds like they have a power grid nightmare down there in Louisiana.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

That power grid thing is what prompted me to dig out the cheapo generator.

We had a 5 or 6 kw Onan in our motor home. Leaked oil like a radial engine but worked well until the regulator thingy went nutz. Never did get that thing fixed... would have if we had kept the bus. 'Nother story....

Borrowed an old generator from county garage each time I needed power tools at a distant construction site.
As the crew leader it was my responsibility to shut it off ....blasted thing always shocked the living snot out of you. In wet grass there was an area of danger  around it😊

Update: Ida inland at our location a non-event. Wet, but no chaos.

Generator goes on the bench to see if it can be rewired to 240 out instead of 120....

Crossbolt  have a question about increase in generator voltage. Would you add more windings to the armature to incress voltage or use a step up transformer? Wouldn't that also decrease amps?

Not that way. Just fumble around with the stator leads to see if there is a three wire combination of 120+, 120- and neutral in the middle.

I have seen this model with 120 volt and 240 volt outlets...
