Had an occasion to perform CPR on an 89 yr old gentleman this morning.
Rec'd an urgent call from my wife that my FIL had stopped breathing.
I got up from my scooters and ran a couple of red lights - when I arrived at my in-laws house my SIL had arrived first and was attempting CPR on her father.
Her chest compressions were much too light - and her breaths were not inflating him, for a couple of reasons.
I checked his vitals, knew that he was gone - but took over the CPR and continued until the squad arrived about 20 mins later.
For the sake of the wife and daughter I thought it best to continue... and to let the medics arrive and make the announcement.
Done right - it IS a work-out.
FIL was bed ridden, and in very, very failing health since being hospitalized with Covid last winter. A stubborn old fellow - he refused visiting nurses and even phone appointments with his family and heart doctors.
The medics confirmed what I knew - that we were both much too late to save him.
Still, it is a good idea to learn proper CPR.
